Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept; VISA Credit, VISA Debit, VISA Electron, MasterCard, JCB , Maestro and PayPal.

How is my information secured when using The Salt Shop website?

All personal data shared is stored securely; we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.

All payments are made through secure third party companies; WorldPay and PayPal. Our website does not capture or store any payment information.

Will I receive a VAT invoice?

Yes - an invoice is emailed to you when purchase online. If you have ordered via the telephone and supplied your email address, you should receive an email when the transaction is complete.

I have forgotten my password, how can I reset it?

You can reset your password by selecting the "Forgot your password?" link in the Sign in page. Alternatively click here.

I have forgotten my username, how can I reset it?

At this time, we do not offer this option on our website. However, we can change your username for you. Please request this via our Contact Us page.

I don't want to register, can I checkout as a guest?

Of course, at the initial screen of the checkout process, please select the "Checkout as guest" option.

How can I save my shopping cart to check out later?

Your shopping cart is saved for 14 days by placing a cookie on your browser. You can also add a product to a Wish List by signing in to your account.

Product Information

How does a water softener work?

Water softening is the removal of calcium, magnesium and other trace metals in hard water to create a soft and useable water.

Water softeners work by forcing the water to flow through a resin bed (water softener salt) to remove the unwanted calcium and magnesium. These are then replaced with healthier sodium ions.

What is the difference between block, tablet and granule water softener salt?

Block, tablet and granular salt are different forms of salt used by water softeners.

Block salt is a 4 kg block of salt with two blocks in each pack. Tablets are formed into either square or rounded pillows to certain psi; higher quality salt is usually 180-200 psi. Granular salt is a small granule form of salt usually used in commercial water softeners and washing machines.

What is the difference between rock salt and de-icing salt?

Rock salt is a brown grit salt used mainly for roads and pathways and can leave a residue after being applied to the surface.

De-icing salt is a clean white salt that is very fine and clean. It is ideal for use in schools and offices where you don’t want salt residue walked around the building.

Can I order different products in the same order?

Of course, we are able to do mixed pallets of materials up to 1000 kg in weight. If you would like a quote please feel free to contact us.

We have agreements with the major manufacturers throughout the UK and can source specific products. Please contact us with your requirements.

Is there a discount available if I place a bulk order?

Bulk order discounts are available on purchases of 5 pallets or more being delivered to the same postcode. If you would like a quote please visit our Contact Us page.

How do I place a bulk order?

Bulk orders cannot be placed on our website. Please contact us to obtain a quote and place your order.

Delivery/Collection

How long will my delivery take?

Our Standard delivery service is 5 - 10 days.

Do you charge for delivery?

We do charge for delivery. To make our prices as competitive as possible we have different delivery charges based on our actual delivery cost. Deliveries in the RG postcode region (i.e. Reading, Newbury, Bracknell, Basingstoke) for example are cheaper than a delivery outside of our immediate geographical area.

To confirm your delivery charge, please add your product to the cart, click on the view cart link and use the 'estimate shipping and tax' link.

Will I be contacted before my delivery?

Yes - all orders are despatched with a request to our delivery team to contact you and arrange delivery. We do request our customers to provide a practical phone number in order to arrange delivery as quickly as possible for them.

Do you deliver on a Saturdays?

In most cases we are able to deliver on Saturdays however this will incur an additional charge. Please contact us and we can provide an individual quotation for a Saturday delivery.

I need my product fast, do you offer an express delivery service?

Yes - we offer a 2 Day Express Delivery service for orders placed before 11am Monday to Friday.

Can I collect your products from your office?

Yes - however this is not available on all products and we ask customers to arrange a suitable time with us to ensure we can help you.

How are the products delivered?

All products are delivered on an 18 tonne rigid lorry with a tail lift off load and a manual pallet truck.

Access to my property is restricted, how do I arrange delivery?

If you have restricted access please contact us directly, we aren't always able to arrange delivery for restricted access properties but we will always try our best.

Do I need to be home to receive the delivery?

Yes - for the driver to complete delivery, the material must be signed for. This also ensures we position your order exactly where you want it.

Do you delivery to my postcode area?

We deliver to all mainland UK postcodes.
